Irrigation trouble shooting #1 - Master shut off valve.

When activating or winterizing an irrigation system, part of that process involves locating and opening or closing the double check valve. The double check (aka anti-syphon valve) is one method among others required my many municipalities to ensure that your personal irrigation system does not flow back into the public water source, possibly contaminating it. Unconventional to some contractors but an essential component of our installation services is adding an additional shut off valve from the main line running from the city meter (which runs water to your house).

Adding this additional safe guard gives a service tech the option to shut off the water flowing to the double check without shutting off water to your house in the event the double check needs replacing. It can often be found close to the double check itself but, as you’ll see in this video, sometimes finding it isn’t always that simple.
